The project details

Mandate awarded by SOGEM
Contract value: $17.7 million CAD

Proposed solutions

The enhanced plant design for the inlet channel cut the project costs by nearly US $30 million.

CIMA International’s Added Value in the Project

The cost savings from the project allowed us to extend rural electrification to nearby villages, offering significant advantage as these communities now benefit from locally generated electricity, now generated at their doorstep.

Main Obstacles Met and Solutions Implemented

The main challenges faced included contractor delays from on-site difficulties and the Covid pandemic.

To address these, we increased the project’s pace towards completion and adjusted activities to manage Covid-related disruptions.

Details of the project and the work carried out are as follows:

  • A 19 m-high, 520 ml-long concrete run-of-river gravity dam with an overflow/spillway threshold weir;
  • A feeder canal/channel;
  • A water intake structure for the plant;
  • A 140 MW hydroelectric power station facility;
  • Restitution structure at the plant discharge point;
  • A diversion/basin drainage structure;
  • A high-voltage 225 kV switchyard substation;
  • 60 km of 225 kV HV transmission lines to the Felou substation;
  • An 18 km-long access road.
