Mandate awarded by CAMWATER, Douala, Cameroon
Contract value: $2.4 million CAD

Proposed Solutions

CIMA International’s involvement began with in-depth engineering studies (APS, APD, and DAO) for the various components of the project across all municipalities. This was followed by consulting and assisting the MOA in selecting the contractors responsible for the works.

CIMA International then supervised construction works on behalf of the project manager, providing the following services:

  • Technical supervision;
  • Administrative and financial control;
  • Supervising and preparing the provisional acceptance of works to completion.
  • Keeping the project manager and the owner informed of site progress.
  • Production of monthly progress reports and detailed reports.

CIMA International’s Added Value in the Project

CIMA International’s service provided significant added value through the transfer of expertise between the Canadian team and local project teams, as well as the client’s specialists involved in the project.

Key Obstacles met and Implemented Solutions

The main obstacles encountered during the implementation phase of the project were the following:

  • Design Phase: Managing subcontractors to meet the tight deadlines for the production of deliverables.
  • Construction Phase: The ongoing need to oversee the contractor’s material selections, ensure proper dosages are maintained, and enforce compliance with construction standards, particularly for contractors lacking adequate equipment.

Project components

Production Component

Involves the rehabilitation of water treatment plants with variations depending on the location (such as dewatering stations, lime treatment, etc.) and includes the installation of appropriate electrical systems (medium/low-voltage stations, generators, electrical installations, etc.).

Reservoir Component

Includes the rehabilitation of old reservoirs and the construction of several new ones, whether at ground level or as elevated water towers.

Water Supply Component

Involves linking the treatment plants to various reservoirs, which are dimensioned and placed based on the identified requirements.

Distribution Component

Focuses on upgrading and extending the distribution network, complete with all necessary equipment for network management and maintenance.
